SE Calgary New Home Build Landscaping

We consulted with the clients and made a landscape plan that fit their needs prior to the start of the construction with this newly built house in south east Calgary. Planning in this early stage is a very important step to ensure that the project will go smoothly. We layout all of the areas to ensure there is adequate space and can estimate materials to secure a price before any work begins. There were many different elements and areas wanted throughout this backyard. The cedar deck off the main back door was the primary social area with a bbq and small seating area off the top portion of the deck near the house and a lower tier of decking that accommodated  a dining set. Since the south side neighbour had a window facing the raised deck we installed a cedar screen for privacy. From the main deck you stepped down onto a roman paving stone patio that was a great space for loungers. It also gave access to the rest of the yard leading to several flagstone stepping stone paths to get to either side of the house, the fire pit area and to the back gate leading to the green space. The fire pit seating area needed to be ten feet away from any combustibles such as the deck or fencing but we didn't want it too far away from the rest of the social areas. Having it offset from the centre of the yard worked great since we could meander our flagstone path to make everything flow. Natural stackable boulders were used to create separation from different areas and allow for additional depth of garden soil. It further tied into the rustic theme we had for this landscape. Since the homeowners had a small dog, we installed a small area of artificial turf for it to relax on in the backyard beside the patio. This project turned out very successfully and we have been back over the years to do an annual spring clean up for this customer.
